Dare to Lead™ Hub
Join Rev. Sarah Ciavarri for an interactive virtual workshop focused on the latest research of Dr. Brené Brown. Brené is a research professor at the University of Houston where she holds the Huffington Foundation-Brené Brown Endowed Chair at The Graduate College of Social Work. She has spent the past two decades studying courage, vulnerability, shame, and empathy, and most recently completed a seven-year study on courageous leadership. She is the author of five #1 New York Times bestsellers: The Gifts of Imperfection, Daring Greatly, Rising Strong, Braving the Wilderness, and her latest book, Dare to Lead, which also debuted at #1 on The Wall Street Journal and Publisher's Weekly list.
The most significant finding from Brené's latest research is that courage is a collection of four skill sets that are teachable, measurable and observable. This workshop will focus on developing these courage-building skills to help leaders move from armored leadership to daring leadership.
What does it take to remain calm and engaged in conflict? To find continual meaning and purpose in work, and to have grounded confidence? We will explore critical moments in leadership and how the stories we create about them influence not only our self-understanding as leaders but also our actions and behaviors. Through self-exploration and group discussion we will learn new patterns of critical awareness and practices that will empower leaders to live and lead authentically with increased courage and connection.

Rev. Sarah Ciavarri
Pastor | Certified Daring Way™ and Dare to Lead™ Facilitator | Consultant / Coach
Sarah Ciavarri enjoys assisting leaders get excited about their lives, callings, and futures. Serving as a coach and facilitator allows her to be part of their transformation and growth.
Sarah is a Certified Daring Way™ Facilitator-Consultant and a Lutheran pastor (ELCA). She supports congregations and church leaders by leading retreats and workshops and coaching on the connections between Dr. Brené Brown's research and faith. Sarah has the unique honor of being an ordained clergy member serving as a Case Consultant with the Daring Way™. She has completed 4 units of Clinical Pastoral Education and is also trained as a Healthy Congregations facilitator.
When Sarah learned of Dr. Brené Brown’s work on shame and vulnerability it was reflected in what she saw in these hopeful elders; they had shame resiliency and could lean into uncertainty and risk. It also gave language that is so helpful in creating safe spaces in congregations for people to really be authentic and alive. Since becoming trained as a Certified Daring Way™ Facilitator in November of 2012, Sarah has worked with individuals and groups to bring clarity and skills to living more authentically, with greater grit, bounce-back-ability, and courage.
Sarah earned a Master of Divinity in 2001 from Luther Seminary where she was a Presidential Scholar and is an ordained Lutheran pastor (ELCA). Her undergraduate degrees in psychology and Spanish are from Concordia College in Moorhead, MN where she was a vocal scholar. Sarah has also served as a chaplain in rural, inner city, and suburban care centers, as well as in a correctional facility and 6 years as a parish pastor.
In February of 2014 Sarah became a Case Consultant with the Daring Way™ which means that she works with candidates new to the Daring Way™ to help them integrate and synthesis their learning into their own context.
As a case consultant, Sarah brings the unique perspective of also being an ordained clergy member and knowing the landscape of where shame, fear, judgment and isolation lurk for those in church leadership. In this capacity, she's been humbled to have the joy of helping clergy and other faith leaders bring the Daring Way™ into the life of their congregation or ministry context - amazing to be part of the journey! In addition to her work with The Daring Way,™ Sarah is also the Director of Spiritual Care at Augustana Care Health and Rehabilitation of Apple Valley and the Apple Valley Villa.
To feed her soul, she writes songs and never passes up a opportunity to lead or participate in improv.
