PLEASE NOTE:

As of September 1, 2022, the MN Board of Social Work will allow 15 hours to be counted toward your CEU requirement for the next license cycle. All 30 hours will count toward meeting the Supervision Training criteria to engage in supervisory practice.

If you prefer to take the 30-hour course in a combined in-person and online format, please registration for the 2023 Spring Supervision Workshop.

Effective supervision is a critical component to the career development of many professionals. Supervisors are instrumental in providing valuable guidance and support to others, maintaining the integrity of the profession and mentoring the next generation of leaders. These are the primary reasons supervision training is deemed essential by many licensing bodies. This course is designed to develop skills, further develop critical thinking in practice, ensure professional growth, and protect the welfare of the public.

Designed to meet the Minnesota Board of Social Work requirements for licensing supervision, this course also provides meaningful knowledge and tools to supervisors in other helping professions. Participants will be exposed to current supervisory issues, challenges and best-practices, then apply new knowledge to relevant case studies. This course is delivered in an asynchronous online model. Components can be completed in a consecutive order, at your own pace.

The training consists of videos on a variety of supervision topics, corresponding quizzes, and required reading that includes several articles related to section topics. Participants will complete assignments related to the readings in order to verify understanding of the material and the learning objectives.

With the recent change in the MN Board of Social Work’s position on online and independent study, this program is designed to meet the criteria for approval and to best afford you the opportunity to gain this supervision training during this period when gathering for training is not an option. We also hope this flexible format allows you to maximize your time when working from home may have interrupted work hours. There is no set  completion date. As soon as all quizzes and assignments are complete and graded, your certificate will be awarded.

Course Requirements:

Participants will watch six videos. The first will involve a review of the syllabus, videos, quizzes, and subsequent readings and assignments. To successfully complete the training, participants must:

  • View all videos in their entirety
  • Successfully complete all corresponding quizzes
  • Complete all required reading
  • Submit corresponding reading assignment for instructor review

Reading assignments will be assessed by the instructor and feedback will be provided. A certificate of completion will be awarded at the conclusion of the training once the submitted materials are graded by the instructor.

Outcomes
Participants will be able to
:

  • Differentiate between supervisory styles and where each is most effective
  • Enhance their own leadership skills to support, mentor and teach those under their supervision
  • Understand how multicultural awareness and diversity impact supervisory relationships
  • Explore courageous leadership and its positive effects on supervision
  • Learn about essential communication and understand the impact difficult conversations have with supervisees

I was not anticipating this course to be so engaging. I really enjoyed your recordings and felt it added so much more to the course rather than solely reading-so thank you! I have definitely saved some of your handouts and appreciate the opportunity to learn. Kelly Humble MSW, LICSW
