Concordia Graduate & Continuing Studies is an approved provider of social work continuing education for MN (MNBSW) and ND (NDBSWE).

A key competency for social workers is to understand how racism and oppression shape human experiences, and consequently how these constructs influence social work practice. This session will highlight some of the societal and historical roots of social and racial injustices affecting social work practice. It will explore the use of intersectionality and cultural humility in supervision as practical tools for supervisors to engage with supervisees to promote anti-racist practice and better manage the influence of bias, power, and privilege in working with clients.

Outcomes
Participants will be able to:

Understand contexts of social and racial inequities in our professional work and the response of professional organizations to address inequities.

Build awareness of one’s own social, cultural, and personal identities that affect our work as supervisors.

Gain practical tools to use in supervision for better anti-racist and anti-oppressive practice.
