Welcome to our course on Motivational Interviewing.
This training will present the basic concepts of motivational interviewing and its significance in addressing ambivalence in the change process. Using exercises and self-reflection activities, participants will be able to build their skills in identifying and implementing the four processes of motivational interviewing.
OutcomesParticipants will be able to:
Introduce basic concepts of Motivational Interviewing
Present significance of ambivalence in the change process
Introduce skills and tools for building motivation
Encourage further study and practice to enhance skills

Deonne Varriano, LCSW
Deonne Varriano is a clinical social worker with over three decades of experience in case management and therapy. A graduate of the University of North Dakota, Deonne worked at Southeast Human Service Center, (Fargo, ND), as a case manager and later a therapist where she employed the technique of Motivational Interviewing in her clinical practice. Her practice included working as part of an IDDT (Integrated Duel Disorder) Team and providing individual, couples and group counseling in the counseling unit. She has been training staff in Motivational Interviewing since 2007. She recently retired from Southeast Human Service Center but continues to share her wisdom and knowledge with audiences throughout our region in the use of the technique of Motivational Interviewing which she highly valued in her professional practice.
