Welcome to our program on Professional Boundaries and Ethical Practice.
Understanding the importance of healthy boundaries and the impact they have on our interactions with clients, and ethical decision-making in the field, is vital to our professional lives.Complaints lodged with boards of social work often contain a component of boundary issues or concerns. Are your boundaries healthy or blurred? This presentation will focus on how to discern when we might be entering murky waters before we make a critical mistake.

Dr. Dahley will discuss how our boundaries are formed and our difficulty at times in discerning concerns. This course will explore how our personal and professional boundaries can establish safe parameters for our practice and how having blurred boundaries puts both the professional and client at risk for harm. Healthy boundaries and warning signs of blurred boundaries will be discussed, along with strategies for addressing boundary concerns and maintaining a healthy practice. Videos will guide you through the information and intermittent quizzes will afford you the opportunity to verify your understanding of the material.

Outcomes:

Describe how boundaries are formed and changed

Identify the role healthy boundaries play in ethical practice

Explore warning signs of blurred boundaries

Define ways to integrate a conversation about boundaries into practice
